The Top 100 Christian Albums of the 1990s: The Top Ten (plus 1)

So I've learned one thing about writing a blog series: plan better. For instance, don't try to write the last installment the week before Easter when you work at a church full-time. That's just a losing proposition. Here we are. The pinnacle. The peak. The top of the mountain, the best of the best. The Top 10 Christian Albums of the 1990s. Forget AC/pop radio, because you're not going to hear mid-30s mommy music here. Unless you were a mid-30s mommy in the '90s and actually listened to this stuff. Then it's totally yours. But these albums, to me, are the most beloved, most artistic, most groundbreaking, most creative, and most important albums from that decade, and they span from the very beginning of the 1990s to the very end. Show Up When You Can't Show Up

Let me tell you about Chris and Becky. On weekends, I work part-time as a DJ in the wedding industry. Earlier in March of this year, I was scheduled to work a wedding reception for a couple, Chris and Becky. They were expecting about 250 guests. When I spoke to them on the phone the week before to go over all the details of their event, we had a great time. We laughed, we joked, and we made some big plans for their wedding celebration. They were excited about their big day. Then, COVID-19 happened. The President announced international travel restrictions. People were encouraged to avoid gatherings of 1000 people or more (this was before it was classified as a “pandemic”). This led to the cancellation of sporting events, concerts, festivals, and even some movie theaters started to sell a limited number of tickets to their screenings. The Top CCM Songs of the 1980s - #3

I hadn't heard of the music of Michael Been and The Call when the #3 song in my countdown hit my ears. To this day, I don't know much about him, other than his song "Let the Day Begin" hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts in the United States, and was used by Al Gore has his campaign song when he was running for President in 2000. Still, the name had been thrown around in music publications, and when I was in junior high school, I happened upon a copy of Harvest Rock Syndicate , which reviewed Red Moon after its release. The name The Call never went off my radar after that. But little did I know that the band, and their frontman Michael Been, would have a stronger connection to one of the best songs of the 1980s than I realized. My older sister Nikki usually introduced me to a lot of music that I ended up loving when I was a kid.
